Mr Colin Dorber

Managing Director | Advocate | Mediator | Mentor | Arbitrator (AIAMA)

Colin has been actively involved in employment law, advocacy and mediation and related issues throughout his working life.

This includes:-

  • Over 10 years with the Police Association of NSW (whilst a serving police officer); and as the first ever National Advocate for the Australian Federal Police Association.
  • He followed this by working in Industrial Relations, in the NSW health sector;
  • and then 11 years as elected Secretary of the National Timber Trade Industrial (Employer's) Association (whilst concurrently being Executive Director of the NSW Forest Products Association.
  • He followed this with a two year plus (and highly politicised) career as Managing Director of Australian Wool Innovation.
  • Colin holds an Advanced Certificate in Professional Arbitration and is a qualified practising Mediator.
  • In January 2003, Colin established Employment Advocacy Solutions Pty Ltd a business which he continues to successfully operate today.

He has an extensive history of providing managerial leadership, especially in change management. He is also an experienced former political lobbyist; Colin has appeared and continues to appear as an Advocate for Employers and occasionally employees.

Since 2013 Colin has also been the Advocate defending applications under the Queensland Trading (Allowable Hours) Act.

In May 2011 Colin also spearheaded the establishment of the Lockyer Valley Farmers United; as a result of the cessation of the beetroot industry. Since then working with a small team of dedicated supporters, they have together established The Lockyer Valley Fruit & Vegetable Processing Company Pty Ltd; and is in the process of bringing about the building of a Cannery / Processing Facility in Grantham, Queensland.

Under Colin’s leadership, his Company provides timely and accurate advice about:-

  • wage rates;
  • dismissal/termination laws;
  • unfair/wrongful dismissal claims,
  • Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO),
  • discrimination and similar legislation,
  • contractor/employee matters,
  • general employment related advice, as well as
  • writing EBAs, CAs and AWAs and award variations.
  • Colin specialises in complex investigations and the dignified re-deployment and/or removal of workplace employees.

Colin’s 13 year police career has underpinned everything he has done and was a seminal moment in the development of his career. It also equipped him with the ability to provide professional leadership in the investigation of workplace accidents, disciplinary investigations, preparation of statements, and representation in prosecutions, training education and support services.

As an Advocate, Colin is keen to ensure Employer's rights are upheld. He will continue to pursue these issues by participating in formal conciliation, arbitration, and mediation processes and providing assistance with workplace agreements, enterprise bargaining, conflict with unions or employees, and all forms of dispute resolution and mediation. Mr Ernie Cooper,

Ernie Cooper has 35 years management experience and acts as a mentor, consultant and facilitator to companies in Australia and New Zealand. A Chairman with The Executive Connection (rookie of the year 2001), a Company Director and Managing Director of Lela Pty Ltd, a consultancy business. His outstanding coaching was recognised with a one-on-one excellence award in July 2002. Ernie is a resource speaker on business analysis and decision-making techniques. His presentation 'Shoot the Dogs' is much applauded winning the TEC Australia Mick Robertson award 2002. He has worked as CEO for an impressive range of companies;

  • BOC as General Manager and Director of New Zealand Industrial Gas & Samoa Industrial Gas.
  • Ohmeda as Australian Country Director, medical division.
  • Brierly Investments Limited as MD of division responsible for office products and franchising instant printing.
  • AusAsean merchant bank as MD of a pooled development fund involved in technology commercialisation.
  • Hancock & Gore Ltd, subsidiary Aarque Systems Ltd, as CEO he was responsible for growth & acquisitions.

Ernie holds an Engineering Honours Degree (UK); he is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program of AIM (Australian Institute of Management) and a Graduate Fellow of AICD (Australian Institute Company Directors).
